Aux États-Unis, le comité de la sécurité vaccinale se réunit toutes les semaines pour faire le point sur les effets secondaires des vaccins anti-Covid-19 après la délivrance de leur autorisation d’utilisation d’urgence. Lors de leur dernière réunion du 17 mai 2021, plusieurs membres du comité ont présenté des cas de myocardite suite à l’injection des vaccins à ARNm, de Pfizer comme de Moderna. Les investigations n’ont pas encore pu établir un lien strict entre la vaccination et l’apparition des myocardites. Il ne pourrait s’agir que de coïncidence. La plupart des personnes concernées sont en cours de soins à l’hôpital et leur pronostic vital n’est pas engagé. Les médecins ont pu dresser un portrait-robot très grossier des personnes les plus à risque.
Les hommes jeunes sont concernés
Les myocardites apparaissent dans les quatre jours suivant l’injection du vaccin, plus fréquemment après la seconde dse. Les effets secondaires sont généralement plus intenses après celle-ci. Les personnes concernées sont majoritairement des hommes jeunes, adolescents ou jeunes adultes. Pour le moment, le Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indique que le taux d’incidence des myocardites depuis le début de la campagne vaccinale n’est pas plus élevé que d’ordinaire.
Le nombre précis de cas n’a pas été communiqué, il est « relativement faible » parmi les 253 millions de doses de vaccins Pfizer et Moderna, distribuées au 10 mai 2021. Le dernier rapport de pharmacovigilance de l’ANSM, daté du 21 mai 2021, ne rapporte aucun cas de myocardite en France. Des recherches plus poussées seront lancées pour relier, ou non, ces cas aux vaccins à ARNm et ajuster leur prise en charge. La survenue de ces cas ne remet pas en cause, à ce jour, leur utilisation.
