C’est une nouvelle dramatique qu’ont annoncée les médias américains dimanche 30 mai 2021 dans l’après-midi : l’avion qui transportait le comédien Joe Lara et son épouse Gwen Shamblin Lara s’est écrasé non loin de Nashville dans des circonstances encore inconnues. En charge d’organiser les secours, Joshua Sanders s’est exprimé sur le statut des recherches à l’occasion d’une conférence de presse. « Nous ne cherchons plus de survivants à ce stade », explique-t-il, rappelant que « plusieurs composants de l’avion ainsi que des restes humains » ont été retrouvés sur les lieux du crash.
Samedi 29 mai, l’acteur Joe Lara, surtout connu pour le rôle de Tarzan dans la série Les Aventures fantastiques de Tarzan diffusée de 1996 à 1997, et sa femme Gwen Shamblin Lara montent à bord d’un avion d’affaires à Smyrna dans le Tennesse direction Palm Beach en Floride. Quelques minutes après son décollage, l’avion s’écrase dans le lac Percy Priest situé à quelques kilomètres de Nashville. Pour l’heure, on ne sait pas dans quelles circonstances l’avion s’est écrasé mais les sept passagers sont désormais présumés morts. Joe Lara avait 58 ans.
