Pour les aider à apprendre en s’amusant. Et surtout, pour leur permettre de comprendre qu’ils ont le pouvoir d’agir sur leur environnement. Cette Journée mondiale de l’océan est l’occasion d’enrichir Mission Océan de trois nouveaux contenus pédagogiques.
L’océan recouvre plus de 70 % de notre Planète. Mais ce que nous imaginons peut-être moins, c’est qu’il abrite la majorité des espèces vivantes sur Terre. Il génère également 60 % des services écosystémiques indispensables à la vie. Il produit ainsi la majeure partie de notre oxygène. Et absorbe aussi 30 % de nos émissions de gaz à effet de serre et plus de 90 % de la chaleur générée par nos activités. Avec le réchauffement climatique, malheureusement, cette belle mécanique est en train de se gripper.
Les Nations unies ont déclaré la décennie qui commence « Décennie des sciences océaniques pour le développement durable ». Et pour aider les jeunes générations à s’emparer de cet enjeu majeur, la Fondation Dassault Systèmes, entourée de partenaires experts de la question, a développé un parcours pédagogique numérique innovant : Mission Océan.
Le programme s’adresse aux élèves de l’enseignement secondaire, aux collégiens et aux lycéens. Au delà du fait de simplement les sensibiliser aux grands enjeux de l’océan, l’ambition est de leur montrer qu’ils ont le pouvoir d’agir sur leur environnement. Tout en les aidant à approfondir leurs connaissances en mathématiques, en physique-chimie, en science de la Terre, etc. Et pourquoi pas ainsi, de susciter des vocations.
Pour le président de la Fondation Dassault Systèmes, Thibault de Tersant, « l’expérience est la meilleure manière d’apprendre, c’est pourquoi Mission Océan s’appuie sur la 3D et les univers virtuels ». La mission compte en effet pour impliquer les élèves sur des « jumeaux numériques » qui permettent de tester des hypothèses, trouver des solutions et donc d’améliorer le réel. Ils permettent également de visualiser, voire de se « déplacer » dans des lieux inaccessibles. Et facilitent, par leur côté ludique, le processus d’apprentissage.
À l’occasion de cette Journée moniale de l’océan, trois nouveaux contenus pédagogiques sont proposés aux collégiens. Le premier leur propose de découvrir le principe du biomimétisme avec l’exemple le Torquigener albomaculosus. Ce petit poison tropical est connu pour créer des nids circulaires dans le sable et protéger ainsi ses œufs des courants marins. Une technique que les ingénieurs tentent de copier pour concevoir des ouvrages de protection.
Le deuxième nouveau contenu aborde le même thème du biomimétisme, sous un angle différent : celui de la production d’énergie marine. Avec l’exploration d’un projet d’hydrolienne qui reproduit le mouvement ondulatoire de la nageoire caudale de certains mammifères marins pour produire de l’électricité. Le troisième et dernier nouveau contenu proposé aux collégiens leur propose une plongée merveilleuse en 3D autour de l’épave de la Lune pour apprendre à se repérer dans l’espace. Et vivre un peu de la vie des marins de guerre de Louis XIV.
