Le maillot de la sélection de football ukrainienne pour l’Euro, jugé nationaliste, a suscité l’ire de Moscou qui a protesté mardi auprès de l’UEFA. L’instance s’est prononcée en faveur d’une modification de l’équipement. La Russie s’est dite satisfaite de cette décision.
La Russie obtient partiellement gain de cause. Le pays avait annoncé mardi avoir adressé une lettre à l’UEFA pour dénoncer le nouveau maillot de la sélection ukrainienne pour l’Euro jugé «politique» par Moscou qui s’offusquait notamment de la mention «Gloire à nos héros» floquée sur le vêtement.
La Russie s’est déclarée satisfaite de cette décision de l’instance européenne du football qui lui donne partiellement raison. «Soyez des héros sportifs et vous aurez la gloire, c’est ainsi et non avec des slogans nationalistes que vous ferez honneur à la patrie», a estimé à l’adresse de l’Ukraine la porte-parole de la diplomatie russe, Maria Zakharova, réagissant sur Telegram. «Le sport n’est pas un champ de bataille, mais de compétition, ce n’est pas une arène politique», a-t-elle encore affirmé
Slogan de la discorde
Dévoilés dimanche à moins d’une semaine de la compétition européenne qui débute ce vendredi, les maillots de la sélection ukrainienne arborent la carte de l’Ukraine, Crimée incluse, que Moscou a annexée en 2014, ainsi que des territoires de l’Est, contrôlés par des séparatistes prorusses. Cette carte correspond aux frontières reconnues du pays.

L’UEFA a en revanche décidé de valider cette carte. Elle a également rejeté la protestation russe visant le slogan «Gloire à l’Ukraine», approuvé par l’UEFA depuis 2018 et qui «peut être considéré comme une phrase générique et apolitique», pour peu qu’il soit analysé isolément.
Les slogans «Gloire à l’Ukraine! Gloire aux Héros!», formules tirées d’un chant patriotique sont devenues un cri de ralliement lors du soulèvement populaire de Maïdan, en 2014, qui avait évincé un président soutenu par le Kremlin, Viktor Ianoukovitch.
