La police kenyane a déclaré que 17 soldats sont morts dans un accident d’hélicoptère jeudi. Les victimes participaient à un exercice d’entraînement lorsque l’hélicoptère s’est écrasé dans le comté de Kajiado, à l’extérieur de la capitale, Nairobi. Six personnes à bord ont été grièvement blessées.
« Cet avion est arrivé quand nous étions sous la colline là-bas. Il a commencé à faire un drôle de bruit, pas celui de l’hélice, ça ressemblait à une ambulance. Après 10 secondes, il a tourné et a essayé d’atterrir mais il n’a pas pu. Je pense qu’il a frappé cette colline et après avoir heurté la colline, elle s’est soudainement retournée et a heurté le sol », a déclaré Morris Kirai Emerit, un habitant du comté de Kajiado.
Emerit a déclaré avoir aidé à secourir deux soldats blessés. L’armée kenyane a confirmé l’accident mais n’a pas donné plus de détails. Selon le responsable de la police, il y avait 23 soldats à bord de l’hélicoptère lorsqu’il s’est écrasé.
