L’ancien président par intérim de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF) de la RD Congo, Constant Omari, a été interdit jeudi de toute activité liée au football pour les 12 prochains mois par la commission d’éthique indépendante de la FIFA.
C’est l’aboutissement d’une longue enquête sur les termes d’un contrat de télévision révisé signé en 2016 entre la CAF et la société de marketing française Lagardère Sports. Les révélations du New York Times en novembre dernier avaient poussé la FIFA à ouvrir une procédure formelle le 7 janvier.
La FIFA a par la suite exclu qu’un conflit d’intérêts jouait un rôle dans l’incapacité de M. Omari à mener à bien sa mission vis-à-vis de l’intégrité, de l’indépendance et de la détermination de la CAF. » Constant Omari a démissionné la semaine dernière de son poste de président de la Fecofa, la fédération congolaise de football, à six mois de la fin de son mandat.
Omari a été interdit en mars de se représenter au Conseil de la FIFA en raison de l’enquête en cours.
