Les indicateurs de l’activité économique dans les pays de l’Union économique et monétaire ouest africaine (UEMOA) ont enregistré de fortes progressions au mois de mai 2021 par rapport à la même période de l’année 2020, marquée par l’impact de la crise sanitaire, selon les données de la Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO) basée à Dakar.
L’institut d’émission explique cette situation par << les effets de rattrapage>>. L’indice du chiffre d’affaires dans le commerce a ainsi augmenté de 21,1% (-20,7% en mai 2020) sur un an, en mai 2021 contre une hausse de 21,8% au mois d’avril 2021.
De même, l’indice du chiffre d’affaires dans les services marchands s’est accru de 18,7% au cours de la période sous revue (contre -5,0%), après une augmentation de 20,2% un mois plus tôt.
Concernant la production industrielle, les services de la BCEAO indiquent que l’indice a progressé de 11,9% en rythme annuel, au cours du mois sous revue (-7,4% en mai 2020), contre une hausse de 15,6% en avril 2021.
Quant au taux d’inflation, la banque centrale souligne, sur la base des données officielles, qu’il s’est établi à 3,3% à fin mai 2021 par rapport à la même période de l’année passée, après une réalisation de 3,1% le mois précédent. L’accélération du rythme de progression des prix est essentiellement imprimée par les composantes Alimentation et Logement.
Selon l’institut d’émission, la hausse de la composante Alimentation est en lien avec le renchérissement des prix des fruits et légumes, des tubercules et plantains ainsi que des produits de la pêche dans la plupart des pays. Celle du transport est liée au renchérissement du charbon de bois, notamment au Burkina, en Côte d’Ivoire et au Togo, ainsi qu’au relèvement des prix du gaz et du pétrole lampant au Burkina, dans le sillage de la remontée des cours du pétrole brut. Par ailleurs, signale la BCEAO, il est noté une hausse du loyer en Côte d’Ivoire (+7,7%) et au Sénégal (+6,2%) ainsi qu’une progression de 5,5% du prix des produits d’entretien et de réparation des logements en Côte d’Ivoire, principalement du ciment (+11,1%).
