Huan Huan, la femelle panda prêtée par la Chine au ZooParc de Beauval, dans le Loir-et-Cher (centre de la France), a mis deux bébés au monde, a annoncé lundi le parc animalier.
« Huan Huan, notre femelle panda, a perdu les eaux vers 00H30. Son premier bébé est né vers 01H05 et le deuxième a suivi quelques minutes après », a précisé le parc zoologique dans un communiqué de presse.
Une responsable de service de presse du ZooParc de Beauval a confirmé à Xinhua par téléphone que les deux bébés sont en bonne santé et très roses. Leur sexe n’est pas encore déterminé. Le premier pèse 149 grammes. Le second a pu être pesé : 128,8 grammes, a-t-elle affirmé.
Selon la même source, Huan Huan elle-même se porte très bien.
Il s’agit du deuxième accouchement pour Huan Huan. Le 4 août 2017, elle avait donné naissance à des jumeaux, mais un seul prénommé Yuan Meng avait survécu.
Fin mars 2021, les deux pandas géants Huan Huan et Yuan Zi avaient tenté de s’accoupler et une insémination artificielle avait également été réalisée par précaution, la femelle panda n’étant féconde que 24 à 48 heures par an.
Une première échographie réalisée le 20 juillet avait montré la présence d’un embryon de bébé panda, mesurant 1,74 centimètres. « On a vu le deuxième dans l’autre corne de l’utérus », a indiqué Lucie Brisson, la vétérinaire qui a pratiqué trois jours plus tard la deuxième échographie à Saint-Aignan (Loir-et-Cher).
Il reste aujourd’hui environ 2.000 pandas dans le monde. Classé « vulnérable » par l’UICN (Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature) sur la liste rouge des espèces menacées, le panda géant est considéré en Chine comme un trésor national.
