La France ne participera pas à la conférence de suivi de la Conférence de l’ONU contre le racisme, dite « Conférence de Durban », prévue en septembre, en raison des déclarations antisémites auxquelles elle a donné lieu, a annoncé l’Élysée ce vendredi.
Plusieurs pays, dont les États-Unis, le Royaume-Uni, Israël, le Canada et plusieurs pays européens ont déjà décidé de boycotter cette « Conférence de Durban », organisée par l’ONU le 22 septembre pour le 20e anniversaire de la conférence mondiale contre le racisme en 2001 à Durban (Afrique du Sud).
« Déclarations antisémites »
« Préoccupé par l’historique des déclarations antisémites prononcées dans le cadre de la conférence des Nations unies sur le racisme, dite conférence de Durban, le président de la République a décidé que la France ne participerait pas à la conférence de suivi qui aura lieu cette année », indique l’Élysée. De nombreux pays occidentaux, dont la France, avaient déjà boycotté la conférence de suivi de Durban en 2009, ainsi que celle de 2011, pour s’élever contre des déclarations antisémites qui y étaient prononcées.
La première conférence de Durban, du 31 août au 8 septembre 2001, quelques jours avant les attaques terroristes du 11 septembre, avait été marquée par de profondes divisions sur les questions de l’antisémitisme, du colonialisme et de l’esclavagisme. Les États-Unis et Israël avaient quitté la conférence en protestant contre le ton de la réunion.

« Attachée à l’universalisme des droits de l’homme, la France continuera de lutter contre toutes les forces de racisme et veillera à ce que la conférence de suivi de Durban se tienne dans le respect des principes fondateurs des Nations unies », a ajouté la présidence française.
En 2020, Emmanuel Macron avait de nouveau mis en garde contre « l’insupportable regain de l’antisémitisme dans notre Europe », ce « mal souterrain » qui peut « porter son visage de toujours » ou « emprunter les masques nouveaux de la haine islamiste de l’antisionisme ».
