Le ministère des Affaires étrangères indonésien a exprimé ses regrets, jeudi 12 août, après l’arrestation musclée d’un diplomate nigérian par des agents de l’immigration à Jakarta, la capitale du pays, samedi dernier.
« Cet incident était isolé et n’a rien à voir avec l’engagement de l’Indonésie à remplir ses devoirs en tant que pays hôte, conformément aux conventions de Vienne sur les relations diplomatiques », a déclaré le porte-parole du ministère indonésien des Affaires étrangères, Teuku Faizasyah, à la presse. « Le ministère du Droit et des Droits de l’Homme a lancé une enquête interne à la suite de cet incident », a-t-il ajouté.
La vidéo de l’arrestation d’Abdulrahman Ibrahim, devenue virale sur les réseaux sociaux, montre un homme plaqué sur le siège d’un véhicule par plusieurs individus, hurlant « Je ne peux pas respirer ».

Au cours d’une conférence de presse retransmise jeudi, le chef du bureau de Jakarta du ministère des Droits de l’homme, en charge de l’immigration, Ibnu Chuldun, a justifié la violence de l’arrestation par « l’absence de coopération » de l’agent consulaire, affirmant qu’il avait refusé de montrer, dans un premier temps, ses pièces d’identité et tenté ensuite de briser la vitre de la voiture avec une e-cigarette, blessant un agent.
L’incident se serait toutefois « réglé à l’amiable », le jour même, après l’intervention de l’ambassadeur du Nigeria près l’Indonésie, selon M. Chuldun.
Mais Abuja ne décolère pas. Mercredi, le gouvernement fédéral a « exigé des sanctions appropriées contre les fonctionnaires concernés et a rappelé son ambassadeur en Indonésie pour des consultations, y compris un examen des relations bilatérales », a déclaré Esther Sunsuwa, porte-parole du ministère des Affaires étrangères, dans un communiqué.
