Pour avoir reçu, mercredi matin, un premier groupe d’évacués d’Afghanistan, à la demande des Etats-Unis d’Amérique, l’Ouganda est ainsi le premier pays d’Afrique à accueillir des Afghans potentiellement en danger.
Un premier groupe d’évacués d’Afghanistan est arrivé à bord d’un vol privé, mercredi 25 août 2021, à l’aéroport international d’Entebbe. Ces personnes ont été reçues par des responsables du ministère ougandais des Affaires étrangères en compagnie des membres de la représentation diplomatique américaine dans ce pays d’Afrique de l’Est. Ces personnes débarquées sur le sol ougandais seraient pour la plupart des traducteurs et des fonctionnaires.
« Les États-Unis expriment leur gratitude au peuple ougandais pour sa générosité et son hospitalité envers ces communautés », a, selon Anadolu, indiqué l’ambassade des États-Unis à Kampala, dans un communiqué. Pour sa part, le ministère ougandais des Affaires étrangères, a précisé que « les 51 personnes évacuées, composées d’hommes, femmes et enfants, ont subi le contrôle de sécurité nécessaire ainsi que les tests obligatoires de Covid-19 et les procédures de quarantaine requises ».
Si aucun autre détail n’a été fourni sur l’identité des évacués, des responsables ougandais avaient, la semaine dernière, révélé qu’à la demande des États-Unis, le pays accueillera jusqu’à 2 000 personnes qui tentent de fuir l’Afghanistan. Ces personnes accueillies seront logées dans des hôtels, avant d’être acheminés vers un pays tiers. L’Ouganda étant utilisé comme point de transit de ceux que la ministre ougandaise chargée des secours appelle des « Afghans en danger ».
