L’audience dans le cadre du procès de l’assassinat de Thomas s’est poursuivie, ce mardi, avec de nouveaux témoins à la barre. Pour le moment, on peut remarquer que les jours passent, mais des questions demeurent entières. Toutefois, le nom de celui qui aurait « tiré dans la tête du Président » Thomas Sankara.
Des différentes dépositions, ce qui ressort, c’est la passivité du service de sécurité du Conseil de l’entente alors dirigé par le lieutenant Gilbert Diendéré. Ce service s’est montré inexistant au moment où le commando assassin a fait irruption sur les lieux et a abattu le Président du Faso et 12 de ses compagnons. Mais après le forfait, on a vu un Gilbert Diendéré plus actif donnant des instructions. C’est ce qui apparaît du témoignage de Hien Sansan, ce jour, par exemple. En service à Pô, il avait été envoyé en mission à Ouagadougou au moment où le drame s’est produit.
Venu déposer un courrier au Conseil de l’entente aux environs de 15 h 30, il y était quand la fusillade a commencé. Il prend d’abord ses jambes au cou avant de revenir sur ses pas quand le calme est revenu, pour chercher sa moto. C’est à ce moment qu’il a été interpellé par Gilbert Diendéré qui lui assigne la mission de faire le tour des garnisons de Ouagadougou pour dire aux éléments de rester en alerte en attendant les instructions. Il exécute la mission avec le chauffeur de Gilbert Diendéré et revient lui rendre compte à la fin.
Deuxième témoignage montrant l’action de Diendéré après le coup, c’est celui de l’adjudant-chef major à la retraite, Alexis Zongo, à l’époque des faits, sergent et chef des engins blindés du 1er Bataillon d’intervention rapide (BIR) au Conseil de l’entente. Lorsqu’il s’est rendu sur les lieux après la fusillade, il a vu le lieutenant Gilbert Diendéré qui se tenait avec d’autres militaires à l’entrée. « Quand je suis arrivé, les tirs avaient cessé. J’ai demandé au lieutenant ce qui se passait. Il m’a répondu : “C’est comme ça que c’est arrivé”, en tendant la main vers le secrétariat. Je suis allé et j’ai reconnu le corps du Président Sankara. Je suis revenu vers Diendéré et j’ai demandé la conduite à tenir. Il a dit de prendre les blindés pour aller boucler les sorties ».
Maître Prosper Farama de la partie civile pose alors au témoin la question de savoir si les blindés qui devaient être envoyés aux sorties de la ville avaient pour mission de protéger le Conseil de l’entente. Et il répond que c’était certainement pour parer à toute attaque.
Pourquoi Gilbert Diendéré prenait-il toutes ces dispositions alors que plus tôt dans la journée, le président de la République s’était fait abattre comme un vulgaire individu sans la moindre riposte dans ces bâtiments du Conseil de l’entente ? Empêcher les unités de l’armée favorables à Sankara de tenter de venger le Président assassiné ?
Et qu’en est-il du service de sécurité propre du Président du Faso, demeuré amorphe et quasi inexistant devant des assaillants qui sont venus, ont opéré et sont repartis en toute sérénité ? La suite du procès nous renseignera peut-être sur ce qui s’est réellement passé ce jeudi 15 octobre 1987. De nouvelles auditions des trois témoins à la barre, hier, tous des membres de la garde rapprochée de Thomas Sankara -Laurent Ilboudo, Drissa Sow et Claude Zidwemba- sont certainement nécessaires pour apporter plus de lumière sur les événements.
Le témoin Issouf Sawadogo, pour sa part, a révélé l’identité des personnes qui ont tiré sur le capitaine Thomas Sankara. Issouf Sawadogo était sergent-chef en service au secrétariat du Conseil de l’entente au moment des faits. Selon ses propos, il était à son bureau le jeudi 15 octobre 1987 au moment où le drame s’est produit. Ayant entendu les premiers tirs, il est sorti de son bureau : « Je suis sorti en même temps que le Président du Faso. Chacun était devant sa porte ». De sa position, Issouf Sawadogo a pu voir ceux qui ont tiré sur Thomas Sankara : « Nabié N’Soni a tiré dans la tête du Président et Hamidou Maïga a tiré sur son thorax. Quand le Président est tombé, Maïga s’est accroupi pour prendre son pistolet automatique »
