Au sortir d’un derby époustouflant face au Maroc (2-2, tab 5-3), l’Algérie de Madjid Bougherra s’est adjugée le droit de disputer les demi-finales de la Coupe Arabe des nations. Yacine Brahimi et ses coéquipiers seront opposés au Qatar, mercredi 15 décembre, à partir de 19h00 GMT, au stade Al Thumama de Doha. Un nouveau grand défi pour les Algériens, jusque-là invaincus dans la compétition, et dont l’objectif est de succéder à leurs voisins marocains, détenteurs du trophée depuis la dernière édition en 2012, en Arabie Saoudite.
La première demi-finale de cette 10ème édition de la Coupe Arabe nations, opposera deux sélections africaines, mercredi (15h00 GMT). La Tunisie, qui a eu raison d’Oman (2-1), affrontera l’Égypte, qui s’est imposé devant la Jordanie (3-1). Cette rencontre est un derby d’Afrique du Nord entre deux anciens vainqueurs de cette compétition. La Tunisie est d’ailleurs la première nation à s’être adjugée le trophée, en 1963 au Liban, tandis que l’Égypte a inscrit son nom dans le palmarès lors de l’édition 1992, en Syrie.
Depuis le lancement de cette compétition en 1963, seulement cinq pays se partagent les trophées, dont trois pour le continent africain. Avec quatre couronnes 1964, 1966, 1985, 1988, l’Irak demeure l’équipe la plus titrée de la Coupe Arabe des nations, devant l’Arabie Saoudite (1998, 2002), le Maroc (2012), l’Égypte (1992) et la Tunisie (1963). Pour cette édition 2021, l’équipe d’Algérie n’a pas caché ses ambitions. Après avoir balayé le Maroc, les Fennecs veulent rentrer chez eux avec le trophée.
