Une peine de 15 ans de prison a été requise mercredi 15 décembre devant un tribunal belge contre un Vietnamien de 45 ans accusé d’avoir organisé le transport d’une partie des 39 migrants vietnamiens retrouvés morts dans un conteneur en Grande-Bretagne en 2019.
Il s’agit du principal prévenu au procès qui se tient jusqu’à jeudi devant le tribunal correctionnel de Bruges (Nord), où sont jugées 23 personnes au total. Le parquet fédéral, qui porte l’accusation au procès, a demandé à son encontre la peine maximale de 15 ans de prison. Poursuivi comme « dirigeant d’une organisation criminelle » de trafic d’êtres humains, il nie toute implication.
Le parquet fédéral « est convaincu que le premier prévenu est le leader de la cellule belge » de ce trafic, « c’est lui qui donnait les instructions aux migrants sur quand allumer ou éteindre leur GSM », a affirmé la magistrate.
Selon elle, c’est aussi lui qui supervisait l’accueil à Bruxelles des migrants en transit depuis d’autres pays européens et qui organisait leur séjour dans la capitale belge avant le départ pour un passage clandestin vers la Grande-Bretagne.

L’enquête a identifié dans la commune bruxelloise d’Anderlecht deux planques par lesquelles transitaient les candidats au franchissement de la Manche. Au moins 15 victimes sont passées par Anderlecht, selon l’accusation. « Dans cette organisation criminelle très bien rodée tout était mis en œuvre pour éviter d’être détecté », a ajouté la magistrate. « Au moins 130 transports » vers la Grande-Bretagne ont été réalisés par cette seule organisation, a-t-elle estimé.

Propriétaires des planques, intendants chargés de gérer les achats et les besoins quotidiens des migrants durant leur séjour, chauffeurs de taxi etc : les complices présumés de ce chef de réseau sont 22 au total à être jugés. Des peines allant d’un an à dix ans de prison ferme ont été requises à leur encontre.
Ce drame de l’immigration clandestine, un des plus poignants de ces dernières années en Europe, a fait l’objet de procédures judiciaires dans au moins quatre pays, notamment en Belgique. Le conteneur était parti du port belge de Zeebruges en direction de l’Angleterre où a eu lieu la découverte des corps après une nuit de voyage, le 23 octobre 2019, dans la zone industrielle de Grays, à l’est de Londres.
Les victimes -31 hommes et huit femmes, âgés de 15 à 44 ans- étaient toutes originaires du Vietnam. Elles sont mortes d’asphyxie et d’hyperthermie en raison de la chaleur et du manque d’oxygène dans l’espace confiné du conteneur.
