Le comité consultatif national d’éthique a approuvé, vendredi, l’élargissement de la vaccination contre le Covid-19 à l’ensemble des enfants âgés de cinq à onze ans, sans leur imposer de passe sanitaire.
Feu vert du comité français d’éthique (CCNE). L’établissement français s’est prononcé, vendredi 17 décembre, en faveur de l’ouverture de la vaccination anti-Covid-19 à tous les 5-11 ans, mais a insisté sur le fait de laisser le choix aux parents et a exclu d’imposer un passe sanitaire aux enfants.
« Il est important de vacciner les enfants et que cette vaccination soit bien suivie », a déclaré lors d’une conférence de presse l’obstétricienne Alexandra Benachi, membre du CCNE, en présentant cet avis rendu jeudi au gouvernement.
Pas d’obligation vaccinale
Mais « il ne faut absolument pas que cette vaccination soit obligatoire » et « il est impossible d’envisager un passe sanitaire pour cette tranche d’âge » comme c’est le cas pour les adultes et les 12-18 ans, a-t-elle enchaîné.
Le gouvernement français prévoit d’ouvrir dans les prochains jours la vaccination à tous les 5-11 ans – c’est déjà le cas depuis cette semaine pour les enfants à risque de développer une forme grave du Covid-19 et ceux vivant dans l’entourage de personnes immunodéprimées – mais a promis de suivre l’avis de plusieurs instances.
Le Comité consultatif national d’éthique (CCNE) est la première d’entre elles. La Haute autorité de santé (HAS) devrait très vite se prononcer sur cette mesure qui concernerait plusieurs millions d’enfants.
Enfin, dernière étape avant une décision du gouvernement, le Conseil d’orientation de la stratégie vaccinale doit donner son avis en milieu de semaine prochaine. Il attend encore des données sur les effets secondaires aux États-Unis, qui ont déjà ouvert la vaccination à tous les 5-11 ans.
L’intérêt collectif
Le président Emmanuel Macron s’est prononcé cette semaine pour une telle ouverture mais a promis de laisser les parents choisir librement.

La vaccination des enfants fait l’objet de nombreux débats car les formes graves de Covid-19 sont extrêmement rares dans cette tranche d’âge, alors que les vaccins peuvent avoir des effets secondaires cardiaques – certes très peu fréquents.
L’intérêt est essentiellement collectif. Une telle mesure viserait à éviter que les enfants deviennent les principaux vecteurs de l’épidémie.
Pour autant, le CCNE a affirmé s’être décidé en fonction de l’intérêt individuel pour les enfants, bien plus que du bénéfice collectif pour l’ensemble de la société.
« Le risque de forme sévère existe (même s’)il est faible », a noté Alexandra Benachi. Mais c’est bien la vaccination des adultes qui « reste indispensable et prioritaire », a-t-elle insisté, notant que l’avis du CCNE avait été rendu dans l’urgence et dans un contexte très incertain.
