Le président de la CAF est arrivé à Yaoundé ce matin, en compagnie de son premier vice-président Augustin Senghor et de Samuel Eto’o. Il est mandaté par le président de la Fifa Gianni Infantino qui est opposé à la tenue de la Can en janvier prochain.
En marge de la finale de la Coupe Arabe, une réunion de la Fifa s’est tenue ce dimanche 19 décembre à Doha au Qatar. Le maintien ou non de la Can en janvier prochain au Cameroun était au cœur des débats. La 33ème édition de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations prévue au Cameroun du 9 janvier au 6 février 2022 était au cœur d’une importante réunion dans la capitale qatari ce dimanche.
Accompagné de la secrétaire générale de la FIFA Fatma Samoura, du président de la CAF Patrice Motsepe, des membres africains du Conseil de la FIFA, le président Gianni Infantino a évoqué le sujet de la Can 2021 au Cameroun. La réunion était en présentielle et en visioconférence.
Le contexte est désormais connu de tous les amoureux du football. Il semble que cette décision n’ait pas suffi à calmer les intérêts des clubs européens. Saisi par les deux camps, la FIFA tente une médiation.
Ça devient insupportable
D’après les informations de RMC Sport, aucune décision (maintien ou report) n’a obtenu un vote majoritaire et l’instance panafricaine compte encore se donner du temps avant de trancher. Cela dépendra notamment du ressenti du président de la CAF, Patrice Mostepe, qui est arrivé à Yaoundé ce matin. Envoyé par Infantino, il vient négocier avec autorités camerounaises le report de la Can. Cette visite de travail s’annonce donc très décisive.
On a noté que lors de ce scrutin, imitant Gianni Infantino qui est pour un renvoie de la Can, l’égyptien Hany Aborida, le marocain Fouzi Lekjaa et le burkinabé Sita Sankaré ont voté en faveur du report. Ces trois présidents de fédérations sont membres africains du Conseil de la FIFA.
Très remonté par tout ce débat, l’attaquant camerounais Karl Toko Ekambi a via son compte twitter déclaré qu’il n’y a aucun entraîneur dans le monde qui peut l’empêcher de jouer la CAN. « C’est dégoutant que certaines personnes essaient d’empêcher les joueurs africains de participer à la Can. Ça devient insupportable la condescendance dont l’ECA et la Premier League font preuve à l’égard du football africain.
