Mais une d’entre elles attire plus les yeux des scientifiques que les autres. En effet, des chercheurs ont mis la main il y a quelques semaines déjà sur une tombe pas comme les autres. Cette dernière, vieille de 10 000 ans, a été trouvée au cœur de la Ligurie en Italie, non loin de Gênes. Au cœur de cette grotte, la tombe d’une petite fille, morte juste après sa naissance, alors qu’elle n’avait que quelques jours.
Une sépulture pour le moins étrange, quand on sait que la mortalité infantile état à l’époque légion et que la disparition d’un enfant n’avait jamais été commémorée de la sorte. Qu’avait donc cet enfant de si particulier pour que ce dernier mérite tant d’honneurs pour ses funérailles ?
Une pratique très peu courante
Les scientifiques nous rappellent en effet que l’attribution de la personnalité à des jeunes enfants est quelque chose qui est arrivé assez tard dans l’histoire de l’Homme. Durant la préhistoire, les civilisations considérées les enfants comme dans un état hybride qualifié aujourd’hui « d’humanité limitée ». Cela rendait leur mort moins importante que pour celle d’un adulte, qui est lui actif dans le développement et la survie de la tribu.
Il est donc d’autant plus étonnant que cet enfant ait eu le droit à un tel hommage. « Neve » comme elle a été baptisée par les scientifiques n’aurait vécu qu’une petite cinquantaine de jours. Elle aurait connu le début de l’ère holocène qui a débuté il y a 10 000 ans. Autour d’elle dans sa tombe, les archéologues ont trouvé des coquillages ainsi que des pierres trouées, formant un collier.
Cette sépulture est une grande première en Europe, elle est d’autant plus importante, qu’elle concerne un enfant féminin, une découverte rare qui devrait pouvoir occuper l’esprit des chercheurs durant encore de longues années.
