Au Sénégal, le lancement officiel de la mise en circulation commerciale du Train Express Régional (TER) s’est tenu ce lundi 27 décembre. Ce train vise à désengorger Dakar qui concentre 25% de la population et 70% de l’activité économique du pays.
Après son inauguration en janvier 2019, le Train Express Régional a effectué plusieurs trajets de démonstration ce lundi dans le cadre du démarrage effectif de l’exploitation commerciale prévue initialement à partir du 15 janvier 2020, après une période de gratuité offerte aux populations.
Selon le président de la République qui énumérait les différents points qui ont motivé la réalisation de ce projet, ce dernier vise à répondre à des impératifs: « le transport de masse avec 15 trains à disposition, le confort avec un aménagement intérieure adéquat, la régularité, une fréquence d’un train toutes les 10 mins de 6 à 22 h, la rapidité, la mobilité, la sécurité et la sureté ».
Ce train circule sur deux voies standards et une voie métrique de 36 km pour chacune, soit 108 km, et comporte 4 wagons. Il va assurer la liaison entre Dakar et la ville de Diamnadio en 18 minutes et desservira 14 gares.
D’un coût de 780 milliards de FCFA (135 000 000 de dollars), ce train bi-mode électrique et thermique dispose d’une capacité de plus de 565 passagers et va acheminer environ 115 000 voyageurs par jour avec une vitesse de 160 Km/h. Les tarifs pour accéder à bord varient entre 500 (1 dollar) et 2500 fcfa (5 dollars).
Le projet du TER est réalisé en deux phases notamment le trajet Dakar-Diamniadio et la 2eme phase, soit 19 km de voies supplémentaires, reliera Diamniadio à l’aéroport (AIBD) en fin 2023.
