La compagnie aérienne Air Sénégal a réceptionné, mercredi 29 décembre, le premier d’un lot de huit Airbus A220-300 attendu. Baptisé « Niokolo Koba », l’avion devra servir pour la liaison entre la capitale sénégalaise, Dakar, et d’autres destinations régionales et européennes.
Le nouvel appareil a décollé de Montréal-Mirabel le 28 décembre 2021 pour rallier Dakar dans l’ancien aéroport Sédar Senghor où une cérémonie était organisée. Air Senegal devient ainsi le quatrième opérateur en Afrique après Air Tanzania (Décembre 2018), Egyptair (septembre 2019) et Air Austral a mettte en service la Airbus A220-300 (août 2021).
Selon la compagnie aerienne senegalaise, l’investissement « fait partie d’un plan de 20 ans visant à développer les voyages et le tourisme au Sénégal ».
Pour rappel, un protocole d’accord portant sur huit A220, d’une valeur de 732 millions de dollars au prix catalogue, avait été signé fin novembre 2019 par Air Sénégal et l’avionneur européen Airbus. La compagnie dispose à ce jour d’une flotte comprenant deux A330-900, deux A321, deux A319, un A220-300 donc et deux ATR 72-600.
