Selon la presse italienne, les tests effectués à bord du paquebot Grandiosa de la compagnie MSC, arrivé lundi matin à 2 h (HNE) à Gênes en provenance de Marseille (sud de la France), ont révélé quelque 150 cas positifs.
Contacté par l’AFP, MSC a démenti ce chiffre, rapportant simplement que 45 cas, « pour la plupart asymptomatiques », avaient débarqué à Gênes.
Mais plus tard dans la journée la compagnie a reconnu qu’il y avait d’autres passagers positifs à la COVID-19 à bord du navire, sans préciser leur nombre, ajoutant juste que ces derniers débarqueraient lors des prochaines escales.
« Conformément au protocole, les passagers positifs et leurs proches ont été immédiatement isolés dans des cabines avec balcon et ont reçu des soins médicaux. Ils ont été débarqués aujourd’hui à Gênes pour être ramenés chez eux en toute sécurité » aux frais de la compagnie, a indiqué le service communication de MSC concernant les 45 personnes descendues du navire à Gênes.
Les autorités du port de Gênes n’ont pas indiqué de chiffre, mais ont confirmé à l’AFP le rapatriement par les services de la protection civile des cas positifs italiens à leur domicile, tandis que les passagers étrangers testés positifs ont été transférés dans des établissements médicaux.
La croisière n’a cependant pas été interrompue et le navire poursuivra son voyage avec comme prochaine escale Civitavecchia, le port proche de Rome.
Après une longue pause forcée due à la pandémie, les compagnies de croisière ont repris leurs activités en 2021. Mais devant la propagation du variant Omicron, elles ont accusé ces dernières semaines une forte augmentation du nombre de cas.
