La maladie à Coronavirus poursuit son expansion dans le monde et l’Afrique n’est pas épargnée. Dans des pays comme le Sénégal, le nouveau variant Omicron étend ses tentacules et représente désormais plus de 40% des cas de Covid-19 détectés dans ce pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest, selon l’annonce faite, ce lundi 3 janvier, par les autorités sanitaires sénégalaises.
La Mauritanie, voisine du Sénégal, n’est pas épargnée par la maladie qui vient de frapper au plus haut sommet de l’Etat. Puisque c’est le chef de l’Etat lui-même, Mohamed Ould El-Ghazouani, qui a été testé positif au Coronavirus. C’est la présidence de la République mauritanienne qui en a fait l’annoncé, ce mardi 4 janvier 2022, par voie de communiqué.
« Les examens médicaux du Président du pays ont montré qu’il a contracté le Coronavirus avec des symptômes bénins », a rapporté l’agence de presse officielle. Toutefois, aucune précision n’a été donnée pour savoir si le chef de l’Etat a été infecté par le variant Delta, beaucoup plus virulent et qui court toujours en Afrique, ou si c’est le nouvel Omicron qui est à l’origine de cette contagion du dirigeant.
La situation épidémiologique faite par le ministère mauritanien de la Santé, dimanche 2 janvier dernier, fait état de 2 décès et 315 nouvelle contaminations au Coronavirus. Depuis l’apparition de la maladie, en 2020, la Mauritanie compte 42 182 contaminations pour 39 271 guérisons et un total de 872 décès.
