« Il y a actuellement des co-infections Omicron et Delta, et nous avons trouvé cette souche qui est une combinaison de ces deux », a fait savoir Leondios Kostrikis, Professeur de biologie à l’université de Chypre.
Cette combinaison avec les génétiques d’Omicron et les génomes de Delta est surnommé « Deltacron ».
Vingt-cinq cas ont été identifiés, dont 11 provenant de personnes hospitalisées à la suite d’une contamination au coronavirus. Le 7 janvier, des échantillons ont été envoyés à la structure Gisaid de l’Institut Pasteur, qui assure le partage des données officielles sur le coronavirus.
