La Suède, qui compte 215 soldats au Mali, dans le cadre de la mission de l’ONU (MINUSMA), envisage de retirer ses soldats de ce pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest.
C’est dans un communiqué, rendu public ce vendredi 14 janvier 2022, que le gouvernement suédois a annoncé le projet de retrait de ses soldats prenant part à la Mission de l’ONJU au Mali. Lequel choix s’explique par le déploiement au Mali des instructeurs russes de la société Wagner et le report des élections maliennes à 2025.
Assurant détenir « des preuves de la présence des mercenaires de Wagner au Mali », la ministre suédoise des Affaires étrangères, Ann Linde, a indiqué qu’il est « également clair que la junte militaire ne respecte pas les élections normales, et nous pensons que ceci peut avoir des conséquences sur nos soldats en mission, raison pour laquelle nous planifions de les retirer du Mali ».
Cette sortie intervient quelques heures seulement après celle du Secrétaire général de l’ONU, Antonio Guterres, qui, depuis New York où il se trouvait, a exigé, jeudi 13 janvier, du gouvernement malien de la Transition, la présentation d’un calendrier électoral raisonnable, espérant « entrer rapidement en contact avec le gouvernement malien ».
« Si un calendrier acceptable est présenté et que le gouvernement prend des mesures dans cette direction, il y aura une levée progressive des sanctions notamment la fermeture des frontières, l’embargo économique et financier imposé par la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest et l’Union économique et monétaire ouest-africaine », a promis Guterres.
