Le secrétaire général des Nations unies, António Guterres, a plaidé, jeudi, pour un engagement collectif en faveur de l’éducation.
‘’Le moment est venu de renouveler notre engagement collectif en faveur de l’éducation’’, qui est ‘’un bien commun inestimable et un catalyseur essentiel de l’ensemble du Programme de développement durable à l’horizon 2030’’, affirme M. Guterres.
Il a fait ce plaidoyer dans une déclaration faite en prélude à la célébration, le 24 janvier, comme chaque année, de la Journée internationale de l’éducation.
‘’La crise qui secoue l’éducation ne se limite (…) pas à des questions d’accès et d’inégalité. Le monde évolue à un rythme vertigineux’’, ajoute le secrétaire général des Nations unies.
Il décrit un monde dominé par l’innovation technique, ‘’les changements spectaculaires dans le monde du travail’’, ‘’l’urgence climatique’’ et la ‘’perte de confiance généralisée entre les populations et les institutions’’.
António Guterres juge que ‘’la communauté internationale ne peut se permettre de tergiverser’’ dans un tel contexte.
Il invite les pays développés à faire ‘’preuve de solidarité financière’’ avec ceux qui sont en développement.
M. Guterres évoque la nécessité de ‘’se lancer dans une réflexion et une analyse, afin de déterminer comment les systèmes éducatifs nationaux peuvent évoluer et se transformer’’.
‘’Les systèmes éducatifs classiques peinent à transmettre les connaissances, compétences et valeurs dont nous avons besoin pour offrir un avenir meilleur, plus vert et plus sûr’’, a-t-il souligné.
