La « primaire populaire », l’un des symptômes des difficultés de la gauche dans la campagne présidentielle, a pris forme dimanche 23 janvier, avec un total de 467 000 inscrits, à l’orée d’une semaine qui verra tous les candidats lancer concrètement leur course aux parrainages.
Les électeurs, qui avaient jusqu’à dimanche minuit pour s’inscrire, sont invités à voter du 27 au 30 janvier pour désigner, parmi sept personnalités de gauche, celle qui sera soutenue par la primaire.
« Notre objectif initial était d’être plus nombreux que la primaire des Républicains (140 000). On est surpris de ce chiffre. Ça montre un engouement des électeurs de gauche et de l’écologie », a souligné auprès de l’AFP l’une des organisatrices de la primaire, Mathilde Imer.
« C’est le plus grand processus de départage de candidats en France, il ne peut pas être ignoré », ajoute-t-elle.
La gauche compte pour l’heure cinq candidats principaux à la présidentielle (Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot, Anne Hidalgo, Fabien Roussel et Christiane Taubira), sans qu’aucun ne puisse rivaliser avec les droites et Emmanuel Macron en vue du premier tour de la présidentielle le 10 avril.
Les inscriptions pour voter se sont accélérées ces derniers jours, permettant à cette initiative de s’affirmer largement supérieure à la primaire écologiste de septembre (122 000), à celle des Républicains début décembre (près de 140 000) ou aux parrainages militants de Jean-Luc Mélenchon (260 000).
Mais, trois des sept candidats ont refusé de reconnaître le résultat du vote : Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot et Anne Hidalgo, et se retrouvent impliqués dans le scrutin malgré eux.
L’ancienne Garde des Sceaux Christiane Taubira – déclarée candidate à la présidentielle il y a seulement une semaine –, et trois candidats de moindre envergure, le député européen Pierre Larrouturou et deux personnes de la société civile, Charlotte Marchandise et Anna Agueb-Porterie, ont quant à eux dit qu’ils se plieraient aux résultats.
« Les jeux sont ouverts. Ce vote, il aura lieu, avec un corps électoral qu’on ne connait pas, mais qui représente toutes les familles et les tendances de la gauche », assure Samuel Grzybowski, autre organisateur, qui estime que « ça peut créer une dynamique ».
