« Plus aucun match ne se tiendra au stade d’Olembe jusqu’à ce qu’on ait le rapport d’enquête sur l’incident malheureux ». C’est la quintessence de la décision prise par Patrice Motsepe, président de la CAF, à la suite du drame survenu le 24 janvier dernier, en marge du match Cameroun / Comores.
L’information a été confirmée par le président de la CAF, le Dr Patrice Motsepe, lors d’une conférence de presse urgente tenue le 25 janvier 2022 au stade Ahmadou Ahidjo à 13h30. Le président a annoncé la suspension du stade d’Olembé et a annoncé que les matchs d’Olembé seront délocalisés au stade Ahmadou Ahidjo.
Cette décision forte découle du fait que, lors de la rencontre opposant le Cameroun aux Comores, comptant pour les huitièmes de finale de la 33ème édition de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations (CAN 2021), le lundi 24 janvier 2022, au stade Paul Biya d’Olembe, le public a escaladé la clôture du stade à l’entrée sud, causant ainsi la mort de huit spectateurs et des dizaines de blessés. Le président de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF) annonce qu’une enquête est ouverte sur ce drame.
A priori, « nous sommes tous responsables », parce que « nous sommes partenaires », mais « il faut qu’on sache qui devait faire quoi et qui a fait quoi », a-t-il promis. Indiquant que « les portes qui devaient être ouvertes étaient fermées » ; et aussi que « le process prévoyait que le supporter arrive, présente son ticket au premier poste, puis accède à l’intérieur et présente cette fois-ci son pass sanitaire. Mais comment des gens ont pu traverser le premier poste sans billet ? Comment des gens ont pu se retrouver dehors avec des billets ? », s’est demandé le patron de la CAF.
En regrettant l’incident, Patrice Motsepe, qui était au chevet des malades à l’hôpital de district de Messassi, promet que « la CAF apportera son soutien aux victimes». En insistant sur le fait que « toutes les mesures seront prises pour que cela ne se reproduise plus jamais ». En attendant, « les prochains matchs prévus à Olembe seront délocalisés au stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, en attendant le rapport d’enquête qui permettra d’établir les responsabilités ». « Il y aura zéro tolérance », a-t-il conclu.
Cet incident meurtrier n’a pas laissé le président de la FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o, insensible. Il a aussitôt présenté ses sincères « condoléances » aux familles des défunts et un « prompt rétablissement » aux blessés. Pour rendre un hommage mérité à ces morts, les Lions indomptables doivent remporter le trophée, a-t-il ajouté.
