Les banques commerciales ougandaises ont gagné 12 milliards de shillings (3 millions USD) de commission en tant qu’assureurs au cours du 3e trimestre 2021, rapporte mercredi 26 janvier la presse locale. Ce résultat montre que la bancassurance est devenue une nouvelle source de revenus pour les institutions financières.
Depuis 2017, l’Autorité de réglementation des assurances de l’Ouganda (IRA) a autorisé 20 banques commerciales a exercé en tant qu’assureurs. Une initiative qui vise à élargir la distribution des services d’assurance à l’échelle nationale et continentale.
Selon les dernières statistiques de l’IRA, les banques ont enregistré des activités d’assurance d’une valeur de 56,9 milliards de shillings (16 millions USD) en primes émises brutes pour l’activité d’assurance-vie. Ce qui a permis aux établissements bancaires de gagner 8,99 milliards de shillings (2,5 millions USD) en commission.
Ainsi, quatre banques ont été distinguées dans cette activité d’assurance. Il s’agit d’Absa Bank, Stanbic Bank, Centenary Bank et PostBank.
Absa a enregistré le revenu le plus élevé avec 2,5 milliards de Shs (711.051 USD), suivi de Stanbic Bank avec 2,1 milliards de Shs (597.283 USD ) et Centenary Bank avec 1,4 milliard de Shs (398.188 USD). PostBank se retrouve à la quatrième place, gagnant 629 millions de Shs (178.900 USD) en commission.
Par ailleurs, les banques ont souscrit des activités d’assurance non-vie d’une valeur de 19,6 milliards de shillings (5,5 millions USD) en primes, gagnant 2,96 milliards de shillings (841884.74 USD) en commission.
