Selon un rapport de l’UEFA publié ce jeudi, la pandémie de Covid-19 a coûté 7 milliards d’euros en deux saisons au football européen. L’instance européenne du football indique que les clubs ont fait face à un manque à gagner de 4 milliards d’euros sur 2019-2020, et 3 milliards sur l’exercice suivant, après 20 ans de croissance ininterrompue.
Revenus de billetterie en net recul
En cause, des revenus de billetterie en net recul en raison des stades sans supporters (avec 4,4 milliards d’euros de pertes de recettes), des activités commerciales et de sponsoring en diminution (une projection de 1,7 milliard d’euros de baisse) et des droits TV également légèrement impactés (0,9 milliard). Des résultats conformes aux prévisions dévoilées par l’instance en mai 2021, qui envisageait un recul de 7,2 milliards d’euros sur deux ans pour 711 clubs de première division en Europe.
L’UEFA constate aussi un net recul du marché des transferts pour les exercices 2019-2020 et 2020-2021. « Les revenus dus aux transferts ont diminué de 40% lors des mercatos de l’été 2020, de janvier 2021 et de l’été 2021 » par rapport à leur niveau d’origine, pointe l’instance européenne, chiffrant à 3,8 milliards d’euros les dépenses des clubs européens à l’été 2021, contre 6,5 milliards au mercato estival 2019.
L’UEFA souligne tout de même un rebond du mercato lors de la fenêtre hivernale venant de s’achever fin janvier. En effet, 950 millions d’euros ont été dépensés le mois dernier en Europe, selon les estimations de l’UEFA. Un total en retrait de seulement 10% par rapport à la moyenne des mercatos hivernaux entre 2017 et 2019.
La Premier League dépense pour acheter des joueurs
Les clubs de Premier League ont dépensé 295 millions de livres sterling (353 millions d’euros) en janvier, soit le deuxième montant le plus élevé jamais atteint lors de la période des transferts hivernaux, grâce à une vague de recrutements tardifs. Et les arrivées de Luis Diaz, Bruno Guimarães et Rodrigo Bentancur dans les derniers jours du mois ont fait grimper les dépenses du championnat d’Angleterre, selon les chiffres publiés mardi par la société financière Deloitte.
Si le record de janvier 2018 (430 millions de livres, 515 millions d’euros) tient toujours, les dépenses de cette année sont plus de quatre fois supérieures à celles de l’an dernier, qui s’élevaient à 70 millions de livres (83 millions de livres), lorsque la crise du Covid avait affecté les budgets des clubs.
La Fifa a recensé quelque 18 000 mouvements internationaux en 2021, un chiffre proche du record atteint en 2019 et en hausse de 5,1% par rapport à 2020, année de l’irruption de la pandémie de Covid-19. Le transfert de l’attaquant belge Romelu Lukaku, passé de l’Inter Milan à Chelsea contre 115 millions d’euros d’après la presse, est le plus cher enregistré en 2021 selon la Fifa (qui ne confirme aucun chiffre), devant ceux de l’Anglais Jadon Sancho (de Dortmund à Manchester United) et du Marocain Achraf Hakimi (de l’Inter au PSG).
