Battus en demi-finale par l’Égypte, les Lions indomptables vont devoir vite digérer cette immense déception pour tenter de finir cette CAN à domicile avec au moins une médaille de bronze autour du cou. Dans la « petite finale », le Cameroun affronte samedi le Burkina Faso, pour un « remake » du match d’ouverture de la compétition.
Après le match d’ouverture de la CAN-2022 remporté face au Burkina Faso (2-1), les Camerounais ne s’attendaient sûrement pas à rejouer cette affiche, samedi 5 février, au stade Ahmadou-Ahidjo, pour leur dernier match dans la compétition. Du moins pas ce match-là, la « petite finale », eux qui rêvaient de disputer la grande, dimanche, devant leur public au stade d’Olembé.
Mais l’Égypte a mis fin au rêve de tout un pays, en s’imposant en demi-finale lors d’une séance de tirs au but cruelle pour les Camerounais. Le sélectionneur Toni Conceiçao ne cachait d’ailleurs pas sa déception : « Nous ne serons pas en finale, nous sommes aussi tristes que les 27 millions de Camerounais, mais c’est le foot. »
« Il faut savoir se relever »
Une déception immense pour les joueurs, qui vont devoir retrouver leurs forces, et leurs esprits, pour sauver l’honneur avec une médaille de bronze. « Quand tu es un homme, tu tombes, il faut savoir se relever, c’est la marque des grands, et c’est ce qu’on va faire », philosophait en zone mixte le milieu camerounais André-Frank Zambo-Anguissa. « Il y a des échéances importantes qui arrivent, déjà le match pour la troisième place et en mars les qualifs du Mondial. On va essayer de se remobiliser rapidement. »

Deux jours seulement après avoir disputé 120 minutes intenses face à l’Égypte, il faudra déjà tenir le défi physique contre une équipe du Burkina Faso qui a bénéficié d’une journée de repos en plus après sa demi-finale perdue contre le Sénégal (1-3). Le sélectionneur du Cameroun a d’ailleurs prévu de faire tourner son effectif : « Scientifiquement, c’est prouvé que les joueurs n’auront pas totalement récupéré (…). On va essayer de rafraîchir l’équipe. C’est impossible d’aligner les mêmes joueurs après 120 minutes, seulement 48 heures après », a-t-il annoncé vendredi en conférence de presse.
Vaincre « la peur de perdre »
Outre le physique, il faudra aussi trouver les ressources mentales pour cette rencontre. « Émotionnellement, les joueurs étaient très abattus. On va essayer de travailler leur motivation », expliquait le sélectionneur. Car c’est justement le point faible de cette équipe, analyse Xavier Barret, chroniqueur pour France 24 et RFI : « Contre l’Égypte, le Cameroun s’est laissé envahir par la peur de perdre, alors que jusque-là, ils avaient eu un parcours relativement facile dans la compétition (…). Au niveau mental, ils n’y étaient pas et se sont effondrés. »
L’attaquant camerounais Karl Toko-Ekambi, lui, est apparu plutôt motivé : « On a fait un bon tournoi et maintenant, on va aller chercher cette troisième place », a-t-il affirmé à France 24 après la demi-finale.
