La Française Chloé Trespeuch est devenue vice-championne olympique de snowboardcross, mercredi, derrière l’Américaine Lindsey Jacobellis, décrochant, à 27 ans, sa deuxième médaille olympique après le bronze de Sotchi-2014.
Quatre ans après sa cinquième place aux Jeux olympiques de Pyeongchang, en Corée du Sud, la plus grande déception de sa carrière, Chloé Trespeuch est allée reconquérir le podium avec la médaille d’argent aux JO-2022 de Pékin, perpétuant ainsi la tradition du snowboardcross français
Avant le début de la compétition, trois noms revenaient avec insistance dans les pronostics pour l’or olympique : la Britannique Charlotte Bankes, dominatrice du début de saison et championne du monde en titre, l’Italienne Michela Moioli, tenante du titre, et Chloé Trespeuch, souvent placée mais jamais gagnante cet hiver.
En finale, la Française, vêtue de la tenue blanche zébrée des Bleus du « snow » à Zhangjiakou et du dossard bleu, était la seule de ce trio de favorites à s’élancer sur la piste peu technique de Zhangjiakou, favorisant la glisse.
Car les manches précédentes avaient laissé sur le côté de la route Bankes dès les quarts de finale, et Moioli, surprise en demi-finale.
L’or, derrière lequel court Trespeuch depuis qu’elle est toute petite, lui tendait ainsi les bras avec ses deux principales rivales éliminées. Mais c’était sans compter sur l’inoxydable Américaine Lindsey Jacobellis qui, à 36 ans, décroche enfin le graal, elle qui était déjà présente pour la première olympique de la discipline à Turin, en 2006, et qui avait raté l’or par excès de confiance sur la bosse finale pour terminer en argent.
« C’était très dur cette 5e place à Pyeongchang, mais ça m’a beaucoup servi, c’était le premier gros échec de ma carrière », a expliqué la Française après sa course finale.
Le snowboardcross, une valeur sûre
« Elle méritait de gagner, mais la médaille d’argent est plus belle que l’or, je peux en témoigner », a glissé en zone mixte sa coéquipière en équipe de France Julia Pereira de Sousa. Cette dernière avait, elle aussi, décroché l’argent il y a quatre ans en Corée du Sud, derrière Moioli, alors qu’elle n’avait que 16 ans à l’époque, plus jeune médaillée de la délégation française en 2018.
Pour Trespeuch, cette médaille en argent est la deuxième, après le bronze qu’elle avait décroché, un peu à la surprise générale, en 2014 sur les pistes russes de Sotchi. Elle prend aussi sa revanche sur les JO-2018 où, contrairement à Sotchi, elle était arrivée avec le statut de prétendante à l’or et avait raté le podium pour terminer 5e.
« Ça a été incroyable, une belle course avec beaucoup de rebondissements », a-t-elle réagi. « J’étais vraiment dans le doute avant la course, parce que je n’ai pas fait une qualification extraordinaire. Je savais que j’allais vite aux entraînements hier mais, forcément, le sport de haut niveau c’est beaucoup de doutes. »
Le snowboardcross français est décidément une valeur sûre des sports d’hiver tricolores, puisque Trespeuch permet à la France de monter sur le huitième des neuf podiums en jeu depuis l’entrée de la discipline en 2006 à Turin, avec notamment Pierre Vaultier, double champion olympique (2014 et 2018).
De quoi mettre en confiance pour la suite de la quinzaine olympique à Zhangjiakou, puisque le snowpark accueillera, jeudi, la compétition masculine avec une chance de podium pour Merlin Surget, Loan Bozzolo ou Léo Le Blé. Samedi, le premier titre olympique par équipe mixte sera décerné, avec là aussi une équipe de France prétendante à la médaille.
