L’Estonie emboite le pas au Danemark. Le ministre estonien de la Défense, Kalle Laanet, a annoncé que son pays avait décidé de retirer ses forces déployées au Mali, au sein des forces européennes à la mission antiterroriste “Takuba”.
« La présence des Forces de défense estoniennes au Mali est sur le point de prendre fin, et le retrait officiel sera annoncé mercredi prochain », a déclaré Laanet lundi, selon le journal local, Postemis cité par l’agence anadolu.
Cette annonce intervient des semaines après que le Danemark a annoncé le début du retrait de ses forces du Mali, après que le gouvernement de transition du pays a exigé un retrait immédiat.
« Les alliés européens ont souligné lors de la réunion de vendredi dernier qu’en raison de la violation flagrante des lois par le Conseil militaire malien, il n’est plus possible de poursuivre la mission” a expliqué Laanet, précisant que « le retrait ne signifie pas la fin de la guerre contre le terrorisme » dans la région du Sahel.
Les forces estoniennes, estimés à 95 soldats, ont contribué à l’opération Barkhane, dirigée par la France, principalement par le biais d’un bataillon d’infanterie stationné à Gao, nord-est du Mali.
