Il ajoute qu’il incombe aux armées nationales africaines de régler les problèmes sur leurs territoires. Enfin, Alassane Ouattara affirme être en contact avec Laurent Gbagbo, l’ancien président de Côte d’Ivoire.
Le président ivoirien Alassane Ouattara a estimé, mercredi 16 février, que le retrait attendu des troupes françaises et européennes du Mali « crée un vide » qui obligera les armées ouest-africaines à être en première ligne dans la lutte contre le jihadisme au Sahel.
« Le départ de Barkhane et Takuba crée un vide. Nous serons obligés d’acheter des armes, d’avoir une plus grande professionnalisation mais c’est notre devoir aussi. Les armées nationales doivent régler les problèmes sur nos territoires nationaux et c’est cela notre philosophie », a affirmé Alassane Ouattara dans un entretien à RFI et France 24.
« Sans sécurité, il n’y aura pas de développement »
Plusieurs dirigeants africains et européens se sont réunis mercredi soir autour du président français Emmanuel Macron pour entériner le retrait des troupes françaises et européennes du Mali. Un redéploiement régional pour poursuivre la lutte antiterroriste au Sahel est envisagé.
« Nous considérons que la lutte contre le terrorisme est quelque chose d’essentiel pour le Mali, pour le Burkina, pour le Niger et pour les pays côtiers », a assuré le chef de l’Etat ivoirien. « Nous serons obligés d’augmenter nos forces de défense, nous serons obligés d’accroitre la protection de nos frontières. Nous prendrons toutes les mesures possible (…) sans sécurité, il n’y aura pas de développement », a t-il ajouté.
La Côte d’Ivoire, pour l’heure relativement peu touchée par les offensives jihadistes, partage une large frontière avec le Burkina Faso et le Mali en proie à des attaques récurrentes de groupes affiliés à Al-Qaïda ou à l’organisation Etat islamique.
La décision de retrait des troupes françaises intervient dans un contexte de crise aigüe entre Paris et Bamako. La junte au pouvoir au Mali, à la suite de deux coups d’État depuis 2020 fustige la présence militaire occidentale sur son sol et fait désormais appel, selon les Européens, aux mercenaires russes de la société Wagner.
