« Suite aux événements des 23 et 24 janvier 2022 qui ont abouti à l’avènement du Mouvement Patriotique pour la Sauvegarde et la Restauration (la MPSR ou la junte, NDLR), le chef de l’État Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba a instruit les services compétents d’ouvrir une enquête aux fins de faire le point des dégâts collatéraux occasionnés », indique un communiqué de la présidence.
Il précise que « le bilan rapporté (…) fait état de deux décès et une douzaine de blessés civils par l’effet de projectiles perdus ».
En présentant ses condoléances « aux familles endeuillées et ses vœux de prompt rétablissement aux blessés », le lieutenant-colonel Damiba a « aussitôt instruit que des actions soient entreprises auprès des familles des victimes afin de les soutenir moralement » et « de prendre en charge les blessés ».
Le 23 janvier, des coups de feu avaient été tirés dans plusieurs casernes du Burkina Faso par des soldats mutins réclamant le « remplacement » des chefs de l’armée, des « moyens adaptés » dans la lutte contre les jihadistes qui frappent le pays depuis 2015, ainsi qu’une « meilleure prise en charge des blessés » victimes de cette lutte.
Le lendemain, alors que des tirs avaient toujours lieu dans une des casernes de la capitale, des militaires annonçaient, à la télévision nationale, avoir pris le pouvoir « sans effusion de sang » et arrêté le président élu Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, placé en résidence surveillée à Ouagadougou.
Promettant « un calendrier de retour à un ordre constitutionnel » dans « un délai raisonnable », le nouvel homme fort du pays, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, a prêté serment le 16 février comme président devant la Cour constitutionnelle.
Samedi, des milliers de personnes se sont rassemblées à Ouagadougou pour apporter leur « soutien sans faille » à la junte.
