Le Premier ministre malien Choguel Maïga a accordé un entretien exclusif à France 24 et RFI depuis Bamako. Selon lui, de « hautes autorités françaises » ont, dès 2012, tenté de diviser le Mali en alimentant les velléités autonomistes du nord du pays. Le Premier ministre estime « très clair » que Paris, par ses « manœuvres », et son « discours » qualifiant la junte au pouvoir d’illégitime, « préparait un plan » pour la renverser.
Choguel Maïga affirme que Bamako n’a « jamais demandé » le départ, récemment annoncé, des militaires français de l’opération Barkhane. Il assure que les Français ont pris la décision de partir « au motif que le Mali s’apprêterait à discuter avec les terroristes. » Il se réfère ainsi au choix de Paris, annoncé le 3 juin 2021, « de suspendre les opérations militaires conjointes avec les forces maliennes ». Le ministère français des Armées avait alors expliqué être « dans l’attente de garanties » sur un retour des civils au pouvoir à l’issue d’élections prévues en février.
Le chef du gouvernement explique que les militaires maliens ont déjà réoccupé les bases libérées par les Français ces dernières semaines. « Nous nous sommes réorganisées », assure le Premier ministre. Interrogé à propos du groupe russe Wagner, il précise que le Mali travaille « avec des coopérants russes », dans le cadre d’un contrat signé avec Moscou. « Le mot Wagner, ce sont les Français qui le disent. Nous, on ne connaît pas de Wagner », affirme-t-il.
Choguel Maïga revendique plusieurs victoires contre les jihadistes sur le terrain : « On est allés au cœur du terrorisme pour détruire les bases et nous gagnons du terrain. »
