Lors d’une conférence de presse jeudi, le président de la Fifa Gianni Infantino a également exprimé son inquiétude par rapport au contexte actuel : « Nous avons le devoir de nous pencher sérieusement sur cette affaire », a-t-il dit. Le patron du football mondial affirme en outre que son comité examinera la situation avec urgence.
Ces trois pays, la Pologne, la Suède et la République tchèque demandent de délocaliser les matches de barrage prévus en Russie. Mais le président de la Fifa estime qu’il y a encore du temps pour dénouer cette crise : « Le premier match aura lieu dans un mois, nous espérons que toute cette situation sera résolue le plus tôt possible. », a-t-il ajouté.
La Pologne devrait par exemple être opposée à la Russie à Saint-Pétersbourg pour le premier match. La deuxième rencontre mettra aux prises la Suède et la République tchèque. Et les deux vainqueurs de ces rencontres se croiseront le 29 mars la place pour le Mondial au Qatar prévu en novembre prochain
