La Russie a réagi à la perte de la finale de Ligue des Champions, à Saint-Pétersbourg.
«C’est dommage qu’une telle décision ait été prise. Saint-Pétersbourg aurait pu fournir les conditions idéales à la tenue d’un tel festival de football», ce sont les propos du porte-parole du Kremlin Dmitri Peskov après la décision de l’UEFA de changer le stade qui accueillera la finale de la Ligue des Champions 2021/2022, d’abord prévue à la Gazprom Arena (Saint-Pétersbourg) avant d’avoir finalement lieu au Stade de France (Saint-Denis). L’antre dionysien n’avait plus organisé la finale de la Coupe aux grandes oreilles depuis l’édition 2005/2006, remportée par le FC Barcelone aux dépens d’Arsenal (2-1).

Par le biais d’un communiqué publié ce vendredi, la fédération russe (RFS) a également exprimé son incompréhension concernant ce changement de l’instance du football européen : «nous pensons que la décision de reporter le lieu de la finale de la Ligue des champions a été dictée par des raisons politiques. La RAF adhère toujours au principe « le sport est en dehors de la politique », et ne peut donc pas soutenir cette décision. (…) Nous sommes toujours prêts à fournir toutes les garanties nécessaires à la tenue de matches de football internationaux en Russie – avec un haut niveau d’organisation et de sécurité.»
