La Mental Health Foundation britannique a alerté l’industrie du jeu vidéo à agir plus efficacement pour prendre soin de la santé mentale des joueurs et des joueuses.
On sait depuis un moment déjà, que les jeux vidéo ne sont responsables ni des comportements violents, ni du manque de socialisation des adolescents, pas plus que des adultes d’ailleurs. Dans une étude publiée il y a quelques jours sur son site officiel, la fondation appelle les éditeurs et développeurs vidéoludiques à agir plus concrètement pour protéger la santé mentale de leurs joueurs et joueuses en expliquant : “L’industrie des jeux a un énorme potentiel pour agir comme une source de bien-être mental”.
Basée sur les ressentis d’une vingtaine de joueurs britanniques, la Mental Health Foundation a livré les résultats de son étude, assortis d’une série de recommandations à destination des créateurs de jeux vidéo. On y retrouve principalement des conseils pour améliorer le vivre-ensemble, comme la nécessité de lutter contre les comportements nuisibles et toxiques, tout en veillant à rapidement endiguer les effets de masse liés à la discrimination et au harcèlement. L’organisme appelle aussi les développeurs à agir pour l’inclusivité, en veillant à représenter des minorités dans leurs productions.

Enfin, la fondation appelle aussi les éditeurs à sensibiliser plus largement leur communauté à l’importance de la santé mentale, notamment ingame. Un moyen pour le Royaume-Uni de lutter contre certains troubles psychologiques comme l’anxiété et la dépression, qui concerneraient un adulte sur six dans le pays. Tandis que de “plus en plus d’institutions culturelles se penchent sur le rôle qu’elles jouent dans la formation des comportements sociaux”, les jeux vidéo semblent, eux aussi, avoir une carte à jouer.
