La guerre en Ukraine et son lot de sanctions annoncées contre Moscou continuent de faire flamber les prix du pétrole qui étaient déjà en train de s’envoler en raison de l’insuffisance de l’offre et d’une forte reprise de la demande dans le monde provoquée par la levée des restrictions contre le coronavirus dans de nombreux pays. Le prix du baril de brent de la mer du Nord pour livraison en mai atteignait 111,30 dollars à 7h01 GMT ce mercredi 2 mars, en hausse de 3,78% par rapport à la clôture la veille.
En effet, le baril avait franchi la barre symbolique des 100 dollars le 24 février dernier, quelques heures seulement après l’invasion russe en Ukraine. L’annonce faite mardi 1er mars par l’Agence internationale de l’énergie (AIE) que ses pays membres allaient libérer 60 millions de barils de pétrole tirés de leurs réserves d’urgence n’a visiblement pas (encore) suffi pour stabiliser le marché. De nouvelles annonces pourraient être faites ce mercredi par les 13 pays membres de l’Organisation des pays exportateurs de pétrole et leurs dix partenaires pour empêcher le pétrole de flamber.
A noter que la Russie est le deuxième plus grand exportateur de pétrole brut au monde et représente plus de 40% des importations annuelles de gaz naturel de l’Union européenne.
