C’est la chronique d’un retour au pays natal. Celle de la légende du tennis Yannick Noah, ancienne personnalité préférée des Français, star de la musique et as du business, revenue bâtir un village de vacances sur les terres qui ont vu naître ses aïeux. Héritage
Parmi les innovations, un mini-bar nous plonge, dès l’entrée, dans l’univers de l’ancien athlète de haut niveau. De part et d’autre de cet espace cosy, un mini-musée, dans lequel le vainqueur de Roland-Garros expose l’ensemble des trophées remportés au cours de sa carrière. Une balade authentique et originale dans l’univers du tennis des années 1980. Idéal pour prendre un verre ou discuter entre amis, dans une ambiance bercée par des musiques du monde.
OÙ QU’ILS SE TROUVENT, TOUS LES ENFANTS DU CLAN DOIVENT SAVOIR QU’ILS ONT UN CHEZ-EUX AU CAMEROUN
Et bientôt, le plat de résistance : autour d’une cascade, dix-neuf chambres et trois suites, dont une VIP. « Chacune de ces chambres porte le nom d’un petit-fils du clan, explique Yannick. Histoire de les préparer à récupérer cet héritage, et de leur dire que, où qu’ils se trouvent, ils ont un chez-eux au Cameroun ».
À l’intérieur, un mélange d’artisanat camerounais ou, plus largement, africain, qui donne un aspect ethnique chic. Du bambou et du rotin local, du bogolan – ce tissu de coton fabriqué au Mali –, des chaises bamiléké, le tout recouvert de paille provenant du Nord-Cameroun.
Guitare et karaoké
Chez les Noah, la musique reste le fil conducteur. Au cœur du domaine, un bus désaffecté a été relooké pour accueillir les amoureux de karaoké. Les samedis, il n’est pas rare de voir le nouveau gardien du temple empoigner sa guitare et monter sur scène pour jouer quelques notes. Le grand-père, Simon Noah Bikié (le « Papa Tara » célébré par Yannick en chanson), et le père, Zacharie Noah, dit « Tonton Zac », qui repose non loin dans le caveau familial, apprécieraient.
Yannick Noah a également fait ouvrir une boutique du Coq Sportif, la marque qui équipe les sélections nationales de football du Cameroun. Membre du conseil d’administration de l’équipementier, avec lequel il chemine depuis ses 19 ans, Yannick Noah n’est pas étranger à la signature du contrat qui lie cette marque à la Fédération camerounaise de football depuis janvier 2020.
CE N’EST PAS LE BUSINESS QUI COMPTE, MAIS LA SPIRITUALITÉ DE L’ENDROIT
L’ancienne gloire du tennis se souvient de cette session du conseil durant laquelle l’appel d’offre a été débattu. « Quand je suis tombé sur le dossier du Cameroun et que nous l’avons examiné, j’ai dit [aux membres du CA], allons-y sans hésiter », se souvient-il.
Près de 1,5 million de dollars ont été investis dans la valorisation du domaine de 3 hectares. L’air débonnaire, Yannick Noah refuse d’endosser le costume d’entrepreneur. « Ce n’est pas le business qui compte, mais la spiritualité de l’endroit », commente-il. Une des conséquences de la tournure qu’a pris son précédent projet immobilier ?
Mille logements… et un procès
À la fin de 2016, les médias avaient annoncé en grande pompe son ambitieux projet : la construction d’une cité en plein cœur de Yaoundé, baptisée « Cité des cinquantenaires » : en 2019, 1 000 logements conçus selon les normes européennes devaient être livrés. Yannick Noah et ses partenaires financiers – parmi lesquels son fils Joakim – ciblaient la classe moyenne et la diaspora, pour un investissement de plus de 60 milliards de F CFA (plus de 90 millions d’euros).
N’étant pas sur place, Yannick Noah, avait créé une société civile immobilière, MJ Construction, et délégué la conduite des travaux à son cousin, Emmanuel Atangana. Trois ans plus tard, et après qu’environ 500 000 euros eurent été dépensés, rien n’avait bougé sur le site du chantier, dont l’acquisition avait été facilitée par la mairie de Yaoundé. Estimant avoir été floué, Yannick Noah est aujourd’hui en procès contre ce proche.
PARMI SES VISITEURS, LES JOUEURS DE TENNIS AMÉLIE MAURESMO ET YAHIYA DOUMBIA, LE BOXEUR TONY YOKA…
À 61 ans, l’ancien sportif, qui a posé ses valises au Cameroun en 2020, en pleine pandémie de Covid-19, commence une nouvelle vie. Depuis l’ouverture du Village Noah, ses amis font le déplacement pour découvrir ce coin de Cameroun : Amélie Mauresmo et Yahiya Doumbia, membres de la grande famille du tennis français, le boxeur Tony Yoka, etc. Durant la dernière Coupe d’Afrique des nations, les membres de la CAF ont été également séjourné au village, qui accueillait une fan zone officielle de la compétition.
Noah veut en faire une halte privilégiée pour les Yaoundéens comme pour les touristes. « Nous proposons aux visiteurs un endroit magnifique, dans Yaoundé, afin qu’ils repartent du pays en se disant : “Nous avons vu quelque chose de formidable” », conclut-il.
