Deux femmes ont été blessées à coups de couteau samedi à l’intérieur du MoMA, le prestigieux musée d’art moderne et contemporain de New York, qui a été évacué, ont indiqué plusieurs sources dont la police.
Les deux femmes, blessées « au dos, à la clavicule et à la nuque », ont été immédiatement hospitalisées et « on nous a dit qu’elles iraient bien », a indiqué sur place le commissaire adjoint au renseignement et à l’antiterrorisme de la police new-yorkaise (NYPD), John Miller.
Le musée, l’un des plus visités de New York, situé dans le quartier Midtown à Manhattan, a été évacué après l’incident, qui a eu lieu vers 16 h 15 (21 h 15 GMT). La police a installé un cordon de sécurité et le musée devait rester fermer samedi, a constaté une photographe de l’AFP sur place.
Le suspect, qui n’avait pas été arrêté samedi en fin d’après-midi, a été présenté par la police comme un visiteur régulier, dont la carte de membre du MoMA venait d’expirer parce qu’il avait causé deux incidents « ces derniers jours » dans le musée.
Samedi, quand l’entrée lui a été refusée, « il s’est énervé […] a sauté par-dessus le bureau de la réception et a attaqué et poignardé deux employés du musée, à plusieurs reprises », a décrit John Miller.
Plusieurs vidéos et photos postées sur les réseaux sociaux ou par les médias montraient les visiteurs sortir du musée au moment de son évacuation.
Le MoMA possède des chefs-d’œuvre de Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol et Frida Kahlo.
