La Cour suprême de Russie a rejeté mardi une demande de suspension de la dissolution de l’ONG Mémorial, confirmant ainsi le démantèlement de ce pilier de la société civile russe.
“La Cour suprême n’a pas accédé à la demande de reporter la dissolution de Mémorial International. La cour considère que les raisons pour une suspension doivent être vraiment exceptionnelles et proportionnées”, a déclaré l’ONG dans un communiqué.
La justice russe avait prononcé en décembre la dissolution de l’ONG Mémorial, pilier de la défense des droits humains et gardien de la mémoire des millions de victimes des crimes de l’URSS. Le verdict avait été confirmé le 28 février.
Fin décembre, la Cour européenne des droits de l’Homme (CEDH), saisie en urgence par Mémorial, avait demandé à Moscou de suspendre la dissolution de l’ONG pour lui permettre d’examiner l’affaire.
C’est en se basant sur cette requête de la CEDH que Mémorial avait saisi la Cour suprême russe.
La dissolution de l’ONG la plus respectée de Russie souligne l’ampleur de la répression tous azimuts dans la Russie de Vladimir Poutine depuis 2020.
Ce tour de vis s’est renforcé depuis le début de l’intervention militaire russe en Ukraine, le 24 février, avec le blocage de nombreux médias indépendants et l’arrestation de milliers de manifestants opposés à l’offensive.
Peu avant le rejet du recours de Mémorial mardi, un autre tribunal russe a condamné le principal opposant du Kremlin, Alexeï Navalny, à neuf ans de prison.
