Les garde-côtes japonais ont émis un message d’alerte en direction des navires à propos de ce qui serait « un missile balistique qui aurait été tiré depuis la Corée du Nord ».
Moratoire avec le Japon rompu
Le tir est arrivé jusque dans la zone maritime économique exclusive du Japon, rompant un moratoire qu’elle observait depuis 2017 sur ce type d’essai d’arme, au risque de déclencher une spectaculaire montée des tensions dans la région.
De son côté, l’armée sud-coréenne a annoncé jeudi avoir tiré plusieurs missiles en réponse à l’essai, le même jour par la Corée du Nord, d’un missile balistique intercontinental.
Les États-Unis ont « condamné avec force » le tir d’un missile balistique intercontinental par la Corée du Nord et prendront « toutes les mesures nécessaires pour assurer la sécurité du territoire américain, de la Corée du Sud et du Japon », selon un communiqué de la Maison Blanche jeudi.
Ce tir nord-coréen « est une violation insolente de multiples résolutions du Conseil de sécurité des Nations-Unies et augmente inutilement les tensions [dans la région] », a réagi la porte-parole de l’exécutif américain Jen Psaki, dans ce texte publié au moment où le président Joe Biden rencontre les alliés des États-Unis à Bruxelles.
Pyongyang respecte un moratoire auto-imposé sur les essais de missiles balistiques intercontinentaux (ICBM) et d’armes nucléaires depuis que le dirigeant Kim Jong-un s’est lancé dans une série de rencontres diplomatiques très médiatisées avec le président américain de l’époque, Donald Trump, en 2018.
Le « missile monstre »
Les pourparlers ont échoué et les efforts de l’actuel président américain, Joe Biden, pour ouvrir de nouvelles négociations n’ont pas permis de sortir la diplomatie de l’impasse.
Pyongyang a commencé à laisser entendre en janvier qu’il pourrait briser le moratoire et a conduit un nombre record de tests d’armes au premier trimestre, tirant des missiles hypersoniques et des missiles balistiques à moyenne portée, tous deux interdits.
Selon l’armée sud-coréenne, la Corée du Nord a tiré la semaine dernière un missile balistique, mais l’essai s’est soldé par un échec total.
Les analystes ont avancé que ce tir raté serait un Hwasong-17, surnommé le « missile monstre », un ICBM qui n’a encore jamais été lancé.
Le Nord semble avoir effectué dimanche des tirs au lance-roquettes multiple.
