Le coordonnateur du Secrétariat technique du comité multisectoriel de la riposte contre le Covid-19 en République Démocratique du Congo, Jean-Jacques Muyembe, a appelé la population à la vigilance et au respect des mesures barrières, en dépit de la baisse des cas de Coronavirus sur l’ensemble du territoire national.
« Cette accalmie ne veut pas dire que le Coronavirus est terminé », a prévenu le coordonnateur du Secrétariat technique du comité multisectoriel de la riposte contre le Covid-19, Jean-Jacques Muyembe, lors d’un point de presse tenu, mercredi 23 mars, à Kinshasa. Dans sa communication, le numéro 1 de la riposte a fait remarquer que le pays connait « moins de 20 cas par semaine, ce qui veut dire que la situation est tout à fait maîtrisée et c’est calme ».
Depuis mars 2020, la République Démocratique fait face à la pandémie du Covid-19. Selon les dernières données en date, le pays a un cumul de 86 585 cas de contamination et 1 335 décès. D’après les prévisions du Secrétariat technique du comité multisectoriel de la riposte contre le Covid-19, la RDC pourrait « connaître une cinquième vague de la maladie vers la fin du mois d’avril et début mai ». Pour le Dr Muyembe, cette période sera cruciale pour la riposte. Si la RDC dépasse cette période sans une hausse de cas, « nous pouvons dire que la maladie est en train de partir et nous pouvons commencer déjà à applaudir », a-t-il affirmé.
Toutefois, il n’a pas écarté le risque que les voyageurs importent la maladie au pays. Par ailleurs, le Dr Muyembe a appelé les différents secteurs impliqués dans la riposte au « respect des mesures barrières telles que le lavage des mains, le port correct des masques ». Pour rappel, en février, le gouvernement congolais a décidé de lever le couvre-feu décrété en décembre 2020 pour lutter contre la propagation du Coronavirus. La prise de cette décision faisait suite, entre autres, à la baisse des cas lors de la quatrième vague causée par le variant Omicron.
