La musique le rend toujours aussi « heureux »: la star de la pop britannique Elton John célèbre ses 75 ans vendredi et sort pour l’occasion l’album « Diamonds: The Ultimate Greatest Hits » sur des plateformes de streaming en son Dolby Atmos, plus enveloppant.
Le chanteur, de son vrai nom Reginald Dwight, est né le 25 mars 1947 dans la banlieue nord-ouest de Londres.
Fait chevalier par la reine Elizabeth II en 1998 pour sa contribution à la musique et son engagement associatif – il est très engagé dans la lutte contre le sida – « Sir Elton » a vendu plus de 300 millions de disques dans le monde. Sa carrière s’étend sur plus de cinq décennies.
« Je ne suis généralement pas du genre à regarder en arrière ou à devenir nostalgique, mais 75 ans est un anniversaire vraiment important », a déclaré la star aux multiples tubes comme « Your Song », « Crocodile Rock » ou encore « Candle In The Wind ».
« Je me sens incroyablement chanceux qu’à 75 ans, j’aime toujours autant ce que je fais – je suis toujours autant stimulé par la musique et si heureux d’en jouer, de l’écouter et d’en parler tous les jours », a ajouté le chanteur dont l’ascension a été racontée dans le film « Rocketman » (2019).
Alors qu’il fait une tournée d’adieu mondiale baptisée « Farewell Yellow Brick Road », Elton John a confié que « le frisson de jouer en live est aussi incroyable qu’il y a 50 ans » et avoir « tant à transmettre à la nouvelle génération de fans et d’artistes ».
Il a encore récemment atteint la tête des charts.
L’an dernier, son titre « Cold Heart », duo avec la chanteuse Dua Lipa, s’est classé numéro un des singles au Royaume-Uni, de même que « Merry Christmas », une collaboration avec Ed Sheeran sortie à Noël dernier.
La superstar aux tenues excentriques a entamé sa tournée d’adieu en 2018, prévoyant plus de 300 dates en trois ans à travers le monde, avant qu’elle ne soit perturbée par la pandémie de coronavirus.
En octobre 2021, le chanteur a également reporté de trois mois cette tournée en raison d’une opération à la hanche.
En janvier, il a dû annuler deux concerts prévus à Dallas, dans le sud des Etats-Unis, avoir été testé positif au Covid-19.
