« Il y a d’autres options. Après un avortement, il y a toujours un traumatisme, mais de cela on n’en parle pas », dit Yolanda, secrétaire de 44 ans, venue manifester avec sa fille.
La manifestation a été organisée par la plateforme « Oui à la vie », qui estime avoir réuni 20 000 personnes, alors que les autorités donnaient le chiffre de 9 000 manifestants.
Le gouvernement du Premier ministre espagnol socialiste Pedro Sanchez soutient l’adoption d’une nouvelle loi destinée à faciliter l’accès des hôpitaux publics à toutes les femmes souhaitant avorter – y compris les mineures de 16 et 17 ans – et pénalisant les manifestation anti-avortement devant les cliniques, considérant qu’il s’agit d’opérations de « harcèlement ».
Dépénalisation en 1985
L’avortement a été dépénalisé en Espagne en 1985 mais pour trois motifs uniquement : viol, « risque grave » pour la femme et malformation fœtale.
Ce n’est qu’en 2010 que ce pays à forte tradition catholique a légalisé l’IVG sans justification médicale jusqu’à la 14e semaine de grossesse.
En 2015, la droite, alors au pouvoir, voulait revenir à la loi de 1985. Confrontée à une levée de boucliers, dans un pays souvent à la pointe en matière de féminisme, elle avait tout de même réformé la législation pour obliger les mineures de 16 et 17 ans à fournir une autorisation parentale.
Une obligation – existant dans la plupart des pays européens à l’exception notamment de la France, de l’Allemagne et du Royaume-Uni – que l’exécutif espagnol veut aujourd’hui abroger.
En Espagne, des femmes doivent parfois parcourir des centaines de kilomètres pour avorter face au manque de services spécialisés à proximité.
Huit des cinquante provinces du pays n’ont recensé aucun avortement depuis sa dépénalisation en 1985, dénonce le gouvernement de gauche, qui souhaite garantir un minimum d’accès à l’IVG.
