La Banque africaine de développement (Bad) et la Communauté économique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’ouest (Cedeao) ont signé un protocole d’accord de 3,56 millions de dollars, soit plus de deux milliards de FCFA, pour développer l’industrie pharmaceutique en Afrique de l’ouest.
La partie occidentale du continent veut prendre son indépendance dans le domaine pharmaceutique. Mercredi dernier à Abuja, siège de l’institution sous-régionale, un protocole d’accord dudit montant a été paraphé par Lamin Barrow, directeur général de la banque pour le Nigéria et par Mamadou Traoré, commissaire de la Cedeao chargé de l’Industrie et du Secteur privé.
L’objectif des deux organisations panafricaines est de mettre en œuvre le Projet d’appui au développement de l’industrie pharmaceutique en Afrique de l’Ouest. Selon le communiqué reçu à APA, le projet soutiendra la mise en œuvre de la réglementation relative à l’application d’une franchise de droits de douane sur les matières premières pharmaceutiques. D’un coût total de 3,77 millions de dollars, le Projet de développement de l’industrie pharmaceutique dans la région de la Cedeao sera financé non seulement par ce don de 3,56 millions de dollars du Fonds africain de développement, le guichet concessionnel du Groupe de la Banque, mais aussi par une contribution de 200.000 dollars en espèces et 400.000 dollars en nature de la Commission de la Cedeao, explique la même source.
« La production locale de produits pharmaceutiques et biologiques est devenue un impératif et une priorité régionale ainsi que la fourniture de services de prestation de soins de santé pour lesquels le soutien de la Banque africaine de développement aidera la CEDEAO à atteindre ses objectifs de développement », souligne Mamadou Traoré. « La crise du Covid-19 a davantage exposé la fragilité de nos systèmes de santé nationaux et a provoqué des perturbations importantes dans le secteur sanitaire et pharmaceutique mondial et des chaînes d’approvisionnement.
