Dans un communiqué publié par plusieurs médias locaux, « la Fédération égyptienne de football a déposé une plainte officielle contre son homologue sénégalaise auprès de l’observateur du match et responsable de la sécurité, la Confédération africaine de football (CAF) et la Fédération internationale de football (FIFA), avant le début du match entre les deux équipes ».
La note officielle ajoute: « L’équipe égyptienne a fait l’objet de racisme après l’apparition de banderoles offensantes dans les tribunes du stade à l’intention des joueurs, en particulier Mohamed Salah, le capitaine de l’équipe. Des éléments de preuves composés de photos et de vidéos ont été joints à la plainte ».
