Les services publics et les transports maritimes, ferroviaires et urbains étaient paralysés mercredi en Grèce à la suite d’une grève générale de 24 heures à l’appel des syndicats du privé et du public protestant contre « la flambée des prix » et « les bas salaires ».
Des rassemblements sont organisés à Athènes et dans d’autres villes pour réclamer « la hausse des salaires » et « le soutien des hôpitaux » frappés de plein fouet par la pandémie, selon le communiqué du syndicat du secteur public, Adedy.
« Hausse des prix, pauvreté, inégalités: augmentez les salaires », revendiquait aussi l’affiche du syndicat du privé GSEE, le plus grand du pays.
Les aéroports du pays n’étaient pas toutefois touchés par la grève générale.
A l’instar d’autres pays européens, la Grèce est confrontée à une flambée des prix depuis l’année dernière et surtout depuis l’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie le 24 février.
L’indice des prix à la consommation en Grèce a de nouveau bondi en février, à 7,2% sur un an, contre 6,2% le mois précédent, un record pour la Grèce depuis l’adoption l’euro en 2001.
Face à la grogne sociale et une baisse de popularité avant les élections législatives prévues l’année prochaine, le Premier ministre de droite, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a annoncé le mois dernier l’octroi d’aides sociales pour les bas revenus d’un montant de 1,1 milliard d’euros au total.
