Moins d’un an après son arrivée au pouvoir, la coalition du Premier ministre, Naftali Bennett, a perdu, mercredi, sa majorité au Parlement après le départ surprise d’une députée de droite, aussitôt courtisée par le chef de l’opposition, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Une nouvelle crise politique en Israël. La députée Idit Silman, élue de la formation de droite radicale Yamina du Premier ministre Bennett, a quitté, mercredi 6 avril, le gouvernement de coalition qui disposait de 61 sièges, seuil de la majorité à la Knesset, le Parlement israélien comptant 120 députés.
« J’ai tenté la voie de l’unité. J’ai énormément travaillé pour cette coalition, mais malheureusement je ne peux pas nuire à l’identité juive d’Israël », a déclaré la ministre dans un communiqué, donnant le « la » à une journée politique intense dans le pays, qui a tenu quatre législatives en deux ans, de 2019 à 2021.
Naftali Bennett et le centriste Yaïr Lapid avaient finalement réuni, en juin dernier, une coalition hétéroclite soutenue par 61 députés composée de la gauche, le centre, des partis de droite et une formation arabe, une première dans l’histoire d’Israël, pour mettre fin à plus de 12 ans consécutifs de règne de Benjamin Netanyahu.
« Je mets fin à ma présence dans la coalition et je vais tenter de parler à mes amis afin de retourner à la maison et former un gouvernement de droite. Et je sais que je ne suis pas la seule à me sentir ainsi », a ajouté la députée Silman dont la déclaration a été aussitôt saluée par le chef de l’opposition.
« Idit, tu viens de prouver que ce qui guide ton action est l’identité juive d’Israël, la terre d’Israël, et je t’accueille à nouveau dans le camp national », a déclaré dans une vidéo Benjamin Netanyahu, qui dirige un bloc de l’opposition de droite réunissant son parti, le Likoud, des formations juives orthodoxes et de l’extrême droite.
Querelle autour de la pâque juive
Le travail législatif de la Knesset est actuellement en pause et le budget, qui doit être approuvé par une majorité pour éviter la dissolution de la chambre, a déjà été validé par le Parlement.
La coalition dispose désormais de 60 sièges, soit autant que l’opposition. Mais si celle-ci parvenait à rallier au moins un autre député au gouvernement, elle pourrait tenir un vote de non confiance et ainsi potentiellement mener le pays vers de nouvelles élections législatives.
Benjamin Netanyahu, qui cherche à revenir au pouvoir en dépit de son procès pour corruption, a appelé les autres élus de droite dans le gouvernement de coalition à rejoindre son camp. « Vous serez accueillis à bras ouverts et avec tous les honneurs », a-t-il déclaré mercredi, alors que l’opposition de droite avait déjà prévu une grande manifestation en soirée à Jérusalem contre le gouvernement de coalition.
Le départ de la députée Silman intervient après une querelle avec le ministre de la Santé, Nitzan Horowitz. ce dernier avait demandé aux hôpitaux, en conformité avec une décision de la Cour suprême d’autoriser la distribution de pain au levain – et non azyme comme le veut la tradition juive – pendant la pâque juive.
Mais des commentateurs politiques ont remis en cause ce seul motif, faisant plutôt état de tensions au sein de la coalition qui réunit à la fois des députés de la droite radicale et du parti arabe Ra’am.
