BNP Paribas a finalisé la cession de ses filiales au Burkina Faso au profit de Vista Bank, apprend-on d’un communiqué de presse relatif à cette opération. « Vista Bank Group a finalisé l’accord en vue d’acquérir la participation majoritaire de BNP Paribas dans le capital de la Banque internationale pour le commerce l’industrie et l’agriculture du Burkina Faso (BICIAB)», peut-on lire dans le document.
« Il s’agit d’un événement marquant dans la stratégie de croissance de Vista. L’acquisition de BICIAB nous permet de bénéficier de son excellent portefeuille de clients fortunés et de grandes entreprises de premier ordre, complétant ainsi notre concentration actuelle sur les petites et moyennes entreprises (PME) et les secteurs de la grande distribution », a fait savoir Simon Tiemtoré, président de Vista Group.
Les conditions de la transaction n’ont pas été dévoilées, ni le gain de BNP Paribas sur cette transaction. C’est le 29 mai 2019 que la banque française a annoncé son intention de réduire sa présence en Afrique. Cela s’inscrit pleinement dans sa stratégie en Afrique qui vise « à accélérer le recentrage de ses activités et continuer à se renforcer, lorsque les caractéristiques de marché correspondent bien à ses forces », avait fait savoir le groupe bancaire, tout en insistant sur le fait qu’il « n’entend pas se retirer du continent ».
Le groupe en effet y reste présent sur des marchés clés, comme la Côte d’Ivoire, le Sénégal et l’Afrique du Sud pour la partie subsaharienne, et la Tunisie, le Maroc et l’Algérie pour le Maghreb. Aussi, Mohammed Ba, le tout nouveau directeur général de Vista Bank Burkina est un ancien de BNP Paribas.
La finalisation de cette opération est une solide opportunité pour Vista Bank, le repreneur des parts de BNP Paribas. « L’acquisition de BICIAB nous permet de nous implanter dans la sous-région de l’Union monétaire ouest-africaine (UEMOA) comme tremplin pour notre expansion future », avait fait savoir Simon Tiemtoré, l’homme d’affaires américano-burkinabé, lors de la plus récente annonce sur cette transaction.
